Gov't to invest NIS 5 billion in Israeli-Arab sector

The Prime Minister's Office director-general Harel Locker on Tuesday announced that the government will invest NIS 5 billion for the advancement of the Israeli-Arab sector.
The funds will be primarily earmarked towards improving education, transportation and employment, he said in an interview on Israel Radio.
According to Locker, the purpose of the funding is to increase the economic development in the Arab sector from eight to 20 percent, equal to the ratio of Arab's in Israel's population as a whole. He added that complete integration of Israeli-Arabs into the country's economy would help reduce the present state of inequality.
Locker's comments came ahead of a meeting Tuesday in Haifa of the Prime Minister's Council for Economic Cooperation With the Israeli-Arab Sector.
