Greek prime minister reassures Israeli envoy over Athens-Jerusalem ties

The newly elected prime minister of Greece sought to reassure Israel this week that relations between Athens and Jerusalem will not change in light of the recent change in government, Israel Radio reported on Friday.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras sat down earlier this week with Israel’s ambassador to Athens, Irit Ben-Abba, for a meeting, the first such discussion between an Israeli official and the new Greek government since the sweeping victory by Tsipras’ radical-leftist Syriza movement.
According to Israel Radio, Tsipras told Ben-Abba that his new government is determined to combat anti-Semitism in Greece and that it would continue to place the heads of the country’s neo-Nazi outfit, Golden Dawn, on trial.
