Haifa resort masseur who raped US tourist gets 6 years

The Haifa District Court on Wednesday sentenced a masseur convicted of raping an American tourist to 6 years in prison.

The woman, who was staying at the Carmel Forest Spa Resort with her husband at the time, was raped by the the man, 38-year-old Semyon Reitburg, when she arrived for her massage appointment.

During the incident, which took place in August 2011, the assailant locked the door of the massage room, and assaulted the woman.

The woman will also be compensated with NIS 100,000.

Reitburg denied accusations and insisted the encounter was consensual. His family plans to appeal the conviction and sentence.
