Hamas, IDF disagree on whether truce has been renewed

Senior Hamas official Musa Abu Marzouk said on Thursday that Egypt has intervened to prevent a new conflict erupting in the Gaza Strip, and that the two sides had renewed the truce made in the wake of the summer 2014 conflict.
"We turned to Egypt, who brought about the last ceasefire, and they acted very quickly," he stressed.
"What is happening on the eastern border of the Gaza Strip is a Zionist attempt to establish a new status quo, at depths of over 150 meters under the ground," the official claimed on his Facebook page. "This attempt has led to a reaction from Hamas, to prevent bulldozers and military vehicles to operate in the area."
The IDF denied the reports. Maj.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai told the Palestinian Maan news agency that "we do not know about any agreement regarding IDF operations in the area. The army continues its operations against Hamas activity that harms Israeli sovereignty through tunnels into our territory."
