Hamas official: Negotiations to resume no later than next week

Senior Hamas official Musa Abu Marzouk set a time frame for indirect talks with Israel on Wednesday evening.

During an interview with the Palestinian wire service Ma'an, he said negotiations would resume no later that next Wednesday, though a specific "date [has] yet to be determined."

Moving on to plans to rebuild Gaza following the latest round of fighting, he said Hamas welcomed UN-led efforts to rebuild the embattled Strip, adding that the UN has reached an agreement with both the Israeli government and the Palestinian unity government to allow materials and good to enter Gaza.

He met with UN officials, he said, to talk about a recovery plan.

The interview also focused on internal political, namely Hamas-Fatah relations. Abu Marzouk said the two factions were slated to meet in Gaza or Egypt to discuss, among other things, the dispute over unpaid salaries to some 40,000 Hamas employees.

There was "no justification for not paying their salaries," he said, adding "they deserved to be paid just like any other worker."
