Hamas Spokesperson says reports that Mashaal was evicted from Qatar are baseless

Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri denied the reports that Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal was evicted from Qatar.

On his facebook page, Zuhri wrote: "The Pressleaks about Khaled Meshaal leaving Doha are unfounded."

Even though there were conflicting reports regarding whether indeed Qatar had evicted Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, the Foreign Ministry – upon instructions from Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman's office – issued a statement praising the move.

According to the statement, the Foreign Ministry over the last year has taken a number of direct and in-direct measures designed to get Qatar to expel Mashaal and cut off support to Hamas.

According to the statement, Liberman and others in the Foreign Ministry worked through both open and discrete channels with Qatar and other states to bring about this move.
