Haredi protesters arrested in Ramat Gan and Jerusalem

Police arrested five Haredi (Ultra-orthodox) protesters late Sunday night on allegations of disturbing public order. In a statement the Dan Region Police said approximately 100 Haredi protesters gathered at the corner of Ben Gurion and Jabotinsky streets in Ramat Gan and blocked traffic. Some of the protesters were allegedly disrupting “normative life” lying in the street and clashing with police. The five protesters were later released.

Haredi protesters are being organized across Israel in support of a Haredi student that was arrested by military police after failing to show up for his military draft registration.

Meanwhile Jerusalem Police arrested seven Haredi protesters for allegedly violating public order on Monday after dozens of protesters caused traffic disruptions at the corner of Jaffa Street and Nordau Street in Jerusalem and at the Harel Interchange on Route 1.

Route 25 southeast of Ashkelon also experienced traffic disruptions after several dozen Haredi protests blocked the road Monday afternoon.

The Dan Region Police said they have a “zero tolerance” police for protesters that violate public order.
