Health Ministry expands polio vaccine campaign nation-wide

The Health Ministry decided on Friday to expand a recently launched polio vaccine campaign to a nation-wide campaign.
From Sunday onwards, the Health Ministry will provide vaccination at well-baby (tipat halav) centers across the country to children born on or after January 1, 2004.
The "Two Drop" campaign of attenuated oral polio vaccine (OPV) was launched after a sample of a wild polio virus, that originated in Egypt or elsewhere in Africa was found in the sewage in the Ramle-Lod area. The virus  has turned some two dozen people – mostly children – into healthy carriers of the virus and threatens to infect the small minority who had not previously received the polio virus vaccine.
The decision to expand the campaign was made after recent sewage samplings found the virus in several sewage treatment facilities.
