Professor Yehuda Liebes of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will be awarded the Israel Prize in research in Judaism studies, the Education Ministry announced on Sunday.
Education Minister Naftali Bennett approved the recommendation of the prize committee headed by Professor Moshe Idel.
"Prof. Yehuda Liebes is a brilliant a leading researcher in Jewish mystical literature of generations. His research is characterized by extraordinary philological sensitivity," the Prize committee wrote. "The specific contributions of Prof. Liebes in the field of the book of Zohar and Sabbateanism have decisively changed the research map. Prof. Yehuda Liebes has brought forth a new generation of researchers whose research he accompanies with great devotion.”
