The Jewish community in Hebron said Thursday that Defense Minister Ehud Barak had authorized re-opening the Zion Route in Hebron to the 80 Palestinian families who live alongside it by the end of July.
The route, which begins at the back of the Kiryat Arba settlement and leads into the Israeli-controlled section of Hebron, was closed to Palestinian cars soon after the start of the second intifada in October 2000.
