Herzog meets Susan Rice, says Labor will support PM if peace talks progress

Opposition leader Isaac Herzog met with US National Security Adviser Susan Rice on Friday, telling her that his Labor party would support Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu should he take a serious step toward a peace agreement with the Palestinians.
"Netanyahu has a majority in the Knesset to move forward with the diplomatic process," Herzog told Rice. "It is in Israel's best interest to separate from the Palestinians, and we, despite the fact that we are in the opposition, will support the government if Netanyahu will do the right thing and advance the peace process."
He added: "I believe the Israeli public will support an agreement with the Palestinians. Unfortunately, the government's actions in recent years make people in the world doubt this. I intend on changing this."
Herzog said that reaching an agreement with the Palestinians would benefit Israel's security and the welfare of its citizens.
