Herzog: 'Yediot' raid is an attack on democracy

Isaac Herzog, leader of the opposition, stated on Monday that, "the Israeli Police raid of the Yediot offices is unacceptable in Israeli democracy and is a severe and unprecedented occurrence." Herzog added that this raid,  "crossed a red line and threatens the independent press in Israel."
The Israeli opposition leader also requested a special debate at the Knesset plenum on Tuesday, demanding explicit explanations from the Attorney General's office about the raid.
Police raided the book publishing offices of Yediot Aharonot in Rishon Lezion last week after Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit authorized a preliminary review into allegedly classified documents that were leaked by imprisoned former prime minister Ehud Olmert.
