Hiddush slams civil unions law: 'Only 15 couples used it'

The Director-General of the Hiddush organization for religious freedom and equality, attorney and Rabbi Uri Regev said that statistics showing that only 15 couples asked to register for civil marriages in the first months after the civil unions law was implemented shows that: "The law is a sad joke."

Regev said "During these past few months, the only ones who registered were those were were waiting for the implementation of the law. In the coming months, it is likely that even less will register, only a few dozen per year. As Hiddush warned, the civil unions law has not solved anything and has only caused harm."

Regev urged the public to demand a "real" civil unions law that includes all kinds of marriages, including Reform and Conservative ones.
