Hiker loses leg to explosive device in Beit She'an

A 37-year-old man lost one of his legs Wednesday when he stepped on an explosive device in a rural area near Beit She'an, northern district police reported.
The man was reportedly hiking as part of a group in an area between Moshav Yardena and Beit Yosef when he decided to walk inside an abandoned building, where the explosion took place.
The man was then rushed from the scene by helicopter by Magen David Adom paramedics to Rambam Hospital where he was hospitalized in moderate condition.
Police are now trying to determine if the explosion was caused by an old land mine or another type of explosive device that had been stashed in the building.
In May, 19-year-old IDF soldier Roi Alfi was killed when he stepped on an old anti-tank mine in the southern Golan Heights.
