I-94 form to US to be eliminated

At the beginning of May, the United States Department of Homeland Security will no longer require foreign visitors to fill out the I-94 form when arriving to select airports and seaports, US Customs and Border Protection (CPB) agency announced in recent weeks.

Instead, the agency will conduct electronic travel record collection, which will streamline the entry process for travelers and reduce federal costs by about $15.5 million per year, the CBP said. The first sites to be involved in the I-94 phaseout include Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Las Vegas Airport, Chicago O'Hare Airport, Miami International Airport and Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Affecting flights from Israel directly, all major air and seaports in the New York region will join the list on May 7 – as will such sites in 11 other cities across the continental US and Puerto Rico. May 14 will see the addition of major air and seaports in eight other continental US regions as well as those in Guam, Hawaii and Alaska, and on May 21, all remaining airports and seaports will join in on the process.

"I welcome this step, which is another aspect of comfort to passengers on routes to the United States," said United Airlines Israel Managing Director Avi Friedman.
