IDF announces plans to build new 'Bor' in Kirya compound

The IDF is planning on building a new underground command center in the Kiyra military compound, it was announced Tuesday.

The new center will be constructed near the IDF and Defense Ministry towers which were completed in 2004. It will replace the current underground post, known by its Hebrew name Bor (pit).

It has been used for several decades and is where the IDF Operations Directorate draws up operational plans and oversees operations at a time of war.

The construction of the new underground center will be undertaken by an American company at a cost of tens of millions of dollars, and is expected to last several years.
