IDF assessment changes: Girl may have been killed by Israeli fire

The army on Friday morning said that according to the latest assessments, the Palestinian girl killed in the Gaza Strip on Thursday night may have been killed by an IDF mortar shell, and not by Palestinian mortar fire as was initially stated. The 17-year-old Palestinian woman was killed during a fire-exchange between terrorists and IDF troops. Eleven Palestinians were wounded in the incident. Hamas claimed she was killed by an IDF tank shell. The military said Nahal Brigade troops had responded with gunfire and mortar shells after they came under fire from terrorists near the Nahal Oz crossing, but did not use tanks. It said mortar shells fired by the soldiers landed in open areas in the Gaza Strip. The soldiers were not hurt in the fighting. The IDF said it is continuing the investigation into the incident.
