IDF commander arrested for allegedly taking bribes from Palestinians

A commander in the military police was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of accepting bribes from Palestinians at the Taybeh checkpoint in the West Bank in exchange for allowing Palestinians to enter Israel without the required permits, the army confirmed on Tuesday.

According to the IDF Spokesman, the arrested policeman was the commander of the four soldiers who were arrested at the end of January for the same illegal act.

Those soldiers, along with an Israeli Arab from the city of Kalansuwa and two Palestinians were arrested after a covert investigation was opened following intelligence received on the matter by Israeli security forces three months ago.

The five military policemen are suspected of accepting thousands of shekels in bribes.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit stated that the army is currently carrying out a joint investigation into the case with the Police Internal Affairs Unit.
