IDF raises age of minority for Palestinians to 18

GOC Central Command Avi Mizrahi signed an order last week raising the age under which the military court system classifies Palestinian minors from 16 to 18. Palestinians in the West Bank are subject to the IDF military justice system.
The change to Amendment 10 to the Order Regarding Security Provisions brings the age of minority to the same as that in place in the Israeli civilian court system.
Some other changes included in the order, according to B'Tselem, are the obligation to notify a minors parents of an arrest, the requirement of informing minors of their right to consult with an attorney, the imposition of a statute of limitations on charges against minors, and a prohibition against holding minors in adult prisons. The human rights group, however, noted that there were exceptions to all of the new clauses.
