IDF: Report saying Israel prefers Assad not credible

A report in the London Times, which appeared on Saturday and claimed to cite an Israeli intelligence official as saying that the survival of Syrian dictator Basher Assad is the preferrable outcome "isn't credible," the IDF spokesman said Sunday.
Posting on his Facebook page, Brig.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai noted that the official was cited anonymously, and said, "I've learned a lot in the past two years on the intelligent use that can be made of such quotes for one purpose or another." He added, "Since the position of the Military Intelligence branch regaring the events in Syria is known to me, I don't find the quote to be credible. I'd even say it is baseless. We in the IDF are continuing to monitor and prepare for every scenario, in the northern sector as much as in any sector, which does not leave us much time for future conjecture."
