IDF soldier dies after collapsing in military jail

A female Israeli soldier who collapsed while being held in a military jail last week has died, the IDF announced on Tuesday.
The 19 year-old soldier, who was arrested in early September for smoking marijuana and held at Prison 4 in Tzrifin, had been evacuated to nearby Assaf HaRofeh hospital in critical condition after she suffered from a heart attack.
According to a report in Haaretz, the soldier had been looked over by an army medic after she complained to prison officials of breathing difficulties, pressure in her chest, fierce pain in her stomach and weakness.
She was found unconscious in her cell two days later. She was later transferred from Assaf HaRofeh to Beilinson Hospital where doctors managed to stabilize her heart and performed a CT scan which showed she suffered severe brain damage likely caused by lack of oxygen to the brain.
The IDF extended its condolences to the soldier’s family and announced that it had opened an investigation into her death, and that an internal investigatory committee would probe whether she was properly treated during her detainment.
