In light of tense situation, PM shortens trip to Germany

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has shortened his planned trip to Germany later this week from two days to just one as a result of the tense security situation in the country.

Netanyahu will fly to Berlin on Thursday with a number of his senior ministers to take part in the annual government-to-government meeting with Germany, and will return later that night. Originally he was to fly out on Wednesday and return Thursday.

This government-to-government meeting is taking place as part of a number of events this year to mark 50 years since the establishment of German-Israel diplomatic ties.

Netanyahu is scheduled to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel during the visit.

The prime minister came under criticism last week when he did not fly home from the US following the murder of Eitam and Naama Henkin on Thursday night, but rather only returned to Israel on Sunday.
