Indictments for rioting expected as police assessment that fighting to taper off in coming weeks

Police expect indictments to be filed on Wednesday against 25 rioters arrested in and around Kafr Kana in recent days, a senior police official said Tuesday evening.
The 24 are part of an overall total of 54 rioters arrested in the clashes that have broken out in the north since the fatal shooting of a local Kafr Kana man by police on Friday night.
Police assessments hold that within the next week or two they could very well see the rioting in the north and also rioting connected to the situation on the Temple Mount quiet down. They have made the decision to move from a more offensive approach to rioting, in particular on the Temple Mount, and are putting more effort into dialogue with local leaders, businessmen, and residents, most of it behind the scene to try to put an end to the rioting of recent weeks.
Police on Tuesday also began a nationwide campaign to arrest Palestinians illegally residing in Israel. Police said on the first day of the operation they arrested around 200 Palestinians illegally in Israel and 13 Israelis who illegally employed them.
The campaign was launched following the murder on Monday of an IDF soldier by an 18-year-old Palestinian in Israel without permit.
