Insurgents kill 3 Buddhists in Thai south

YALA - Suspected Muslim militants armed with rifles and riding a motorcycle shot dead three Buddhists in Thailand's deep south on Friday, police said, the latest in a rash of killings this week in the region bordering Malaysia.

Two assailants armed with M-16 and AK-47 assault rifles opened fire on four men in Pattani province before fleeing the scene.

The lone survivor identified the attackers, who are wanted by police for the May 7 bombing of a soccer match in Pattani between Buddhist villagers and police, in which four officers were killed and seven others wounded.

Friday's shootings came after the killing of four Muslims in Pattani and Yala on Thursday, suspected by police to be revenge attacks for the murder of a Buddhist teacher a day earlier. There were no suspects.
