Iran detains 7 Afghans after they cross border

TEHERAN, Iran — An Iranian news agency on Monday said seven Afghan troops were detained after illegally crossing the Iran-Afghanistan border in the volatile southeast, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
Border police chief Gen. Hossein Zolfaghari said six Afghan officers and one soldier had driven into Iran' Sistan-Baluchistan province in a car with fake license plates.
Zolfaghari said they were carrying rifles, ammunition and an RPG launcher. He said the Afghans claimed they were on a patrol looking for Taliban and had no intention of entering Iran.
ISNA cited Zolfaghari as saying the Afghans will be handed over to the judiciary.
