Iran hit by additional earthquake of 5.8 magnitude

TEHERAN, Iran – Another earthquake hit Iran Saturday, when a 5.8 magnitude jolted the Negar region of Kerman province in the southeastern part of the country, Iran's state television reported.

There was no word on casualties or damage.

The television station's website said the quake struck at 11:22 a.m. local time (6:52 GMT), an area about 670 miles (1,075 kilometers) south of the capital Teheran.

The US Geological Survey put the quake's strength at magnitude 5.3.

On Friday, a magnitude 5.7 quake injured 170 people in the northeast city of Torbat-e Heydariyeh, damaging several villages in the region and temporarily disrupting communications.
