Iran state television: 6 more activists on trial

Six opposition activists are being tried in the latest session of the mass trial for those accused of plotting a "velvet revolution" to topple the regime, Iranian state television reported Monday. The court session was the latest hearing since August 1, and came as officials seek to silence the outrage following Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election in a race critics maintain was defined by massive fraud. Ahmadinejad's re-election touched off waves of protests, later quashed by security forces. The opposition says at least 72 protesters were killed, while Iranian officials have said 36 people died in the postelection turmoil - Iran's worst unrest since the 1979 Islamic revolution.
