Iraqi PM cancels top government positions

BAGHDAD - Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi called on Sunday for cancelling the positions of vice president and deputy prime minister, as part of an initiative aimed at improving state finances and reducing corruption.
The measure, announced in an online statement, requires approval from the Council of Ministers and parliament. Iraq has three vice presidents and three deputy prime ministers.
