Israel cools down but new round of weekend heat expected

The country was noticeably cooler on Tuesday following several days of heatwaves that went above 40 degrees in many places. Compared to the same time period only 24 hours prior, most places saw the temperature drop by 5 degrees.
According to the Israel Meteorological Service, temperatures are expected to continue dropping and stabilize by Thursday as skies remain cloudy throughout the week. Those looking to cool off might want to head to Safed, which is expected to have a low of 12 degrees and a high of 22 on Thursday.
Savor these days because on Friday, temperatures are expected to rise once again.
Late on Monday, the IMS released its summary of the 3-day heatwave that began on Saturday. Eilat was the only city to set a new record with a high of 46 degrees, though some cities came close to their record highs by a matter decimals .
Although temperatures occasionally go past 40 degrees during the month of May, the IMS noted that the frequency in recent years stands out. The IMS also noted that the use of new sensors at some of their weather stations may have resulted in temperatures appearing a few decimals higher than with the old sensors.
