The Israel Democracy Institute said in a statement on Sunday that the closure of Channel 10 is a "violation of pluralist ideas and opinions in Israel, and Israeli democracy as a whole."Commenting on the "bureaucratic barriers" erected by the Prime Minister's Office, the domestic policy think tank said Israeli television must have more than one commercial channel in order to maintain a functioning, independent media outlet. The IDI added that telecommunications should act as a watchdog of public officials for the common good, without any connection to a particular viewpoint or party, and not be the darling pet of politicians.
