Israel ends Europeans with two silvers

Israel’s delegation to the European Swimming Championships in London will return home with two medals on Monday after Gal Nevo couldn’t scale the podium for the second time in the event on Sunday.
Nevo, who won a silver medal in the 200-meter individual medley last week, ended the 400m IM in seventh place in the closing day in a time of 4:18.96 minutes, over a second slower than the time he set in the morning heats (4:17.20m).
Yakov Toumarkin claimed Israel’s other medal in the championships, finishing the 200m backstroke final in second place on Saturday.
Nevo and Toumarkin were two of the six Israeli swimmers to have already booked their places at the Rio Olympics entering the championships, a list which remained unchanged following the event.
The other four are Ziv Kalontarov, Amit Ivri, Andrea Murez and Zohar Shikler.
Israel’s other swimmers have until July 3 to set the Olympic qualifying time.
Meanwhile, Boglarka Kapas won her fourth gold medal as Hungary topped the final medals table while hosts Britain wrapped up the pool action with a relay double.
Kapas had already won 800m, 1,500m and 4x200 freestyle golds and the 23-year-old added the 400m to her collection.
Hungary ended the meeting with 10 golds and a total of 19 medals, fewer than Britain who took their haul for the week to 22 but only seven of them gold.
