Israel Museum and Umm al-Fahm display collaborative art project

A series of sculptures promoting Arab-Israeli coexistence will be created today in Umm al-Fahm. The event is the culmination of the "Open Window Dialogue" project organized by the Israel Museum's Youth Wing. The metal sculptures were designed by teaching artists from the Youth Wing, Hanan Abu Hussein and Yael Robin. They will be installed on Mount Iskander in Umm al-Fahm. Inspired by works by both Jewish and Arab-Israeli artists, the sculptures will be painted by local high school students and students from the museum's high school art matriculation program. The goal of "Open Window Dialogue" is to promote Arab-Jewish dialogue through activities that require cultural cooperation and creativity. Since its creation in 2007, the project has brought about 2,500 students and 300 teachers from Umm al-Fahm to the Israel Museum for day-long tours and art workshops. This is the largest group of participants from a non-local community to ever engage with the museum and the museum hopes to expand the project to other communities. Other projects led by the Youth Wing include artistic collaboration between Jerusalem's Jewish and Arab high school students, programs for children and families in areas affected by conflict and art courses tailored to the needs of wounded and disabled soldiers.
