Israel stops importing Turkish eggs due to bird flu

As a result of avian flu outbreaks in neighboring countries, Agriculture Ministry officials decided on Tuesday night to cease important eggs used for eating and breeding from Turkey, the ministry announced on Wednesday. Citing World Health Organization reports, however, the ministry stressed that there is no public health concern associated with eating eggs as long as they have been heated.
At the same time, Agriculture Ministry officials this week are hosting their counterparts from the Palestinian Authority for a joint training session on bird flu risk analysis, under the guidance of professionals from the United States, the ministry said. The course is occurring due to the fact that several avian flu cases were identified this year in both Israel and the PA and as a result of the fact that "diseases do not recognize borders," the ministry added.
