Israel to come to standstill with 11 a.m. Memorial Day siren

The country will come to a standstill for a ceremonial two-minute siren at 11 a.m. Monday to mark Memorial Day.
The solemn day of tribute began Sunday at sundown with a memorial ceremony at Mount Herzl. The official state memorial ceremony will be held following the siren at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, led by President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot. At the same time, the Kiryat Shaul military ceremony in Tel Aviv will host a memorial event led by Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.
Over 1.5 million people are expected to visit military cemeteries across the country on Memorial Day.
