Israel to host global swimming tourney

For the first time, Israel is set to host the International School Sports Federation swimming championship this year, the Education Ministry announced this week.
Approximately 200 swimmers between the ages of 14 and 17 will participate in the competition, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Wingate Institute, located north of Herzliya.
Israeli athletes will be joined in the pool by competitors from Brazil, China, France, Germany, Hungary, India, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and Turkey.
“It is an honor for the ministry to host such an important competition,” Education Ministry director- general Dalit Stauber said in a statement.
“Sports competitions are a bridge for dialogue between young people from all over the world,” she added.
Stauber stressed that in recent years, the ministry has been encouraging schools to increase physical activity among its students, and that these efforts have resulted in a 30-percent increase in the number of students that engage in physical activity during their leisure time.
