Israeli, Palestinian negotiators hold secret Jericho talks despite ‘suspension’

Despite the Palestinian Authority’s claim that it had suspended peace talks with Israel in protest against Monday’s incident in Kalandiya refugee camp, Israeli and Palestinian negotiators held a secret meeting in Jericho the same day, a well-informed source told the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
The unnamed source said that the two negotiating teams met at the home of chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat in Jericho.
The source told Xinhua that the meeting was held with the absence of envoys from the US.
Monday’s meeting was held despite an announcement by Yasser Abed Rabbo, PLO secretary-general, that the PA leadership had suspended the talks in protest against the killing of three Palestinians during clashes with IDF soldiers at Kalandiya camp.
PA officials in Ramallah refused to comment on the report.
