Israeli police detain 12 in alleged IDF fraud scheme

The Israeli police detained 12 suspects Monday morning on suspicion of bribery and fraud, including two IDF officers, according to the Police Spokesperson's Unit.

The arrests come as a result of a covert police operation, in which 10 civil servants and two army officers who work together to provide infrastructure for IDF bases are suspected of fraudulently taking funds from the Israeli army for years by demanding payment for works that were not carried out.

It is suspected that the two IDF officers, with the rank of lieutenant colonel and the rank of major, used their position of responsibility for supervising tenders and receiving service at various army bases to partner with civil servant workers in siphoning funds from the army.

Police investigators of the International Criminal Investigation Unit at Lahav 433 searched the suspects' offices and seized their computers and documents for information linking them to suspected offenses.
