January tourism up 19% over 2014, breaking new record

Tourist entries into Israel were up 19 percent January as compared with a year earlier, breaking a new record.
“This is an excellent beginning for 2014, following the record year for incoming tourism to Israel in 2013,” said Tourism Minister Uzi Ladau.
The total number of entrants to Israel was 229,000, which was lower than in January 2011 and 2012, but of those, the number classified as tourists (those who stay more than one night) hit 200,000 a record high for January.
January was still registering a decrease in day visitors across the Egypt-Israel border, and there was also a significant decrease in the numbers of cruise visitors.
In December, over 272,000 tourists visited Israel, marking a 14 percent increase from the same period in 2012.
