Jerusalem mayor to head to US despite haredi violence

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat is scheduled to leave Israel midweek for a two week working-vacation with his family in the United States despite the recent haredi rioting in the city, officials said Sunday. Barkat spokesman Evyatar Elad said that the trip was planned way in advance, and that the mayor would be in "continuous touch" with his acting mayor during his absence.
