A lawmaker from the Joint List on Tuesday assailed Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev for threatening to halt state funding to a Jewish-Arab theater for children in Jaffa run by an actor who refused to perform in a West Bank settlement.
MK Jamal Zahalka called on Regev “to cease threatening the Elmina Theater in Jaffa and the Jewish and Arab children who take pleasure from its activities.”
“Minister Regev’s unbridled attacks against [theater co-founder] Norman Issa [in the wake of Issa’s refusal to perform with his theater group in the Jordan Valley] are scandalous,” Zahalka said. “What does she want? Actors without a conscience?”
