"The protest of motorcyclists against a disproportional hike in the cost of vehicle insurance is justified and it is appropriate that the Knesset avoid such legislation," Kadima MK Nachman Shai said in a statement Thursday. He was referring to a significant hike in the price of insurance for two-wheeled vehicles being debated in the last few weeks. Shai added that there was environmental sense in encouraging two-wheeled vehicles since their low fuel consumption meant they had a lower carbon footprint. The decision to raise the cost of insurance was against the state's interest and only served insurance companies, Shai said, and called on MK Ophir Akunis (Likud), the chairman of the Knesset's Finance Committee to convene an urgent discussion in order to "prevent the discrimination of motorcyclists."
