Kazakhstan: Detained Israeli gets better conditions following Peres request

Following the visit of President Shimon Peres to Kazakhastan and a personal request he made to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry announced a series of humanitarian measures it will take regarding Israeli Boris Sheinkman, held in Kazakhstan for several months. Sheinkman will also be taken out of legal "limbo," the ministry said, according to a statement released by the office of President Peres. The measures were confirmed by the Kazakh deputy foreign minister in a meeting with the Israeli ambassador in the country. Sheinkman will now be able to meet with his daughter Lee Sheinkman, hold phone conversations with his family in Israel and people visiting him will be able to spend more time in his company than previously. His daughter has been lobbying to improve his condition for the past few days, since Peres arrived in the country.
