Kerry meets Livni, encourages efforts to renew peace talks

US Secretary of State John Kerry strongly encouraged efforts to renew peace talks, in a meeting with Justice Minister and Chief Negotiator in the Israeli-Palestinians peace talks Tzipi Livni in Washington.
The two discussed the peace process as well as regional developments, particularly Syria.
Kerry expressed hope that renewed US engagement would soon lead to a "substantial initiative" toward achieving a two-state solution.
He welcomed the recent proposal to relaunch the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which calls for a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 lines, with east Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital. Kerry emphasized the importance of creating an environment conducive to the resumption of talks and urged Israel to take positive steps to achieve this.
