Knesset director-general elected Upper Nazareth mayor

Third time is a charm for Knesset Director-General Ronen Plott, who was elected Mayor of Upper Nazareth Tuesday night after losing in two previous runs.
Plott won 62 percent of the vote, securing his victory with support from the haredi Degel HaTorah faction.
The special election was called after former Upper Nazareth mayor Shimon Gapso was convicted of bribery. Plott moved to Israel from Moldova in 1974, and lived in Upper Nazareth until he was appointed Knesset director-general in 2013.
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein's chief of staff Albert Sacharovich is likely to replace Plott at the legislature.
