Knesset moves forward with i24News bill

The Knesset Economics Committee approved a bill for first reading on Monday that will allow the i24News channel to be broadcast in Israel. Currently, television regulations only allow the content to be broadcast internationally.
According to the bill, initiated by MK Nachman Shai and signed by multiple lawmakers from both the coalition and the opposition, it would be possible to watch i24 broadcasts in English, Arabic and French in Israel. Shai said that for years he fought to for local news to be broadcast in a language other than Hebrew. “Since the IBA neglected its news broadcasts in foreign languages, it’s about time to revive this market,” he said. “There is a large group of people that would benefit from the bill.”
