Labor convention delayed for the third time

Labor chairman Ehud Barak was forced to delay Labor's constitutional convention for the third time on Thursday due to stiff opposition from both political rivals and allies to his efforts to tighten his control over the party. Barak wants to delay Labor's next leadership race and add unprecedented powers to his position at the convention, which had been set for July 8. A Barak adviser said the controversial convention would now take place no earlier than the end of July. Even Barak allies like Social Welfare Minister Isaac Herzog and Histadrut Labor Federation chief Ofer Eini oppose the changes, along with fierce Barak critics like MKs Eitan Cabel and Ophir Paz-Pines.
