Labor MK Ben-Eliezer: I'm best candidate for president

Labor MK Binyamin Ben-Eliezer told the haredi radio station Kol Chai on Sunday that he is the most fitting candidate to replace President Shimon Peres when Peres's term ends next July. Ben-Eliezer said he had not yet decided whether to run.
While considering running, Ben-Eliezer has met with nearly every MK and visited Shas mentor Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. The 120 MKs vote for the president in a secret-ballot vote.
Former Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin is expected to run and Hatnua MK Meir Sheetrit said he is interested in the post. Former foreign minister David Levy is being pressured to run as well. The law bars Peres from seeking re-election, and he has said he did not want the law changed to enable him to run again.
