Labor Party calls on Netanyahu to 'follow rules', abandon attempts

The Labor Party on Sunday came out against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's reported initiative to cancel or delay the presidential election, which is expected to take place in June.

"The fact that this initiative popped up a month before the election raises the suspicion that Netanyahu's motives are improper and what we're seeing is him forcing his own timetable on matters to serve his political interests," the party said in a statement.

The party called on Netanyahu to "respect the democratic rules of the game which have already been established and shelve this initiative which does not add to the honor to the Presidency, the Knesset and especially not to the prime minister himself."
