Labor's number 2 says artificially extending Herzog's leadership illegal

Artificially extending the tenure of Isaac Herzog as party chairman without primaries is illegal and undemocratic and would force Labor into a lengthy and damaging campaign at a time when the public's trust in the party is at a nadir, MK Shelly Yacimovich told her supporters over the weekend in her first response to Herzog's decision to hold the next Labor leadership race in July 2017.
Yacimovich wrote her supporters in her weekly email to them that the election should be held as soon as possible "to put it behind us and enable us to focus on our national goals." Labor will vote on Herzog's proposal, as well as an alternative proposal of MK Erel Margalit to hold the race in December 2016 at a party convention on July 31.
