Lapid demands transparency in ‘Tal Law’ committee

Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to ensure transparency in the proceedings of the committee to find an alternative to the “Tal Law.”
“This cannot happen in dark, secret rooms or behind the scenes without knowing what kind of deal was made,” the aspiring politician said on Wednesday.
Lapid added that he hopes the unity coalition will bring a bill requiring all 18-year-olds to enlist in the IDF or do national service, but he is skeptical.
The coalition is currently putting together a committee to draft a bill to replace the Tal Law, which enabled yeshiva students to indefinitely defer military service. The High Court ruled earlier this year that the Knesset may not renew the law, and part of Kadima’s coalition deal with the Likud requires new legislation by the end of July.
